Audiophile Nervosa
When you sit down to listen to your system, are you anlyzing or enjoying?
As audiophiles, we all start off in search of better sound. We had an initial experience that imprinted upon us. We heard music sound better than we thought possible. This led us down the rabbit hole, into the audiophile world.
We all enjoy good sound and look for ways to improve our systems. At what point however, does this seeking improvement in sound take a dark turn. Have you ever found yourself listening to music and feel tense? You find yourself looking for the faults, how the system could sound better? Are you listening to tracks or LP’s that are recorded well, or to music that you simply enjoy?
When our source of joy becomes anxiety, there is a problem. I call this ‘Audiophile Nervosa’ and I think we have all been there.
The fact is, music is to be enjoyed. Whether its tube or solid state, analog or digital, we all like different things. Audio equipment that is designed right should make us smile and allow us to hear deeper into the music.
I design ModWright equipment to make music. It is designed for low noise, low distortion, wide bandwidth and good tone. And most of all, it is designed to simply let the music through. I always love hearing from customers that say with our gear, they have stopped searching and started enjoying.
The next time you start to reach for that ‘Reference Track’ or album, stop and think about what music you really enjoy. Life is short. Music is forever.
Don’t fall prey to ‘Audiophile Nervosa’.
