A Pure Analog Moment

Last evening, I sat with my dogs, reading Hemingway while listening to Joni Mitchell on vinyl.

The room was quiet. The music was soothing. It was one of those rare moments when time seems to slow down and the noise of the world fades into the background.

It had been a long week—busy, stressful, and full of demands. Like most of us, I had spent much of my time reacting to schedules, responsibilities, emails, and the constant stream of information that fills modern life.

Yet for a little while, none of that mattered.

As I sat there reading and listening, my mind relaxed. My body relaxed. I felt present in a way that is becoming increasingly rare.

It was a Pure Analog moment.

Why These Moments Matter

As I reflected on that evening, I realized how important experiences like this have become.

We live in a world that constantly competes for our attention. News, social media, notifications, endless information, and growing demands on our time leave very little room for quiet reflection.

There is always something asking for our focus.

Very little encourages us to slow down.

Yet it is often in these quiet moments that we reconnect with ourselves. Our thoughts become clearer. Our creativity returns. We gain perspective. We stop reacting to life and simply experience it.

These moments are not a luxury.

They are essential.

Pure Analog Is More Than Vinyl

In this particular case, I was listening to vinyl through a ModWright PH 9.0XT phono stage, feeding an LS 300 tube preamplifier and a KWA 300 power amplifier.

But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that the source wasn’t really the point.

The experience would have been much the same if the music had come from a digital stream.

That realization led me to an interesting thought.

At ModWright, every product we build is devoted to the handling and preservation of analog signal. When I speak of Pure Analog, I don’t mean only vinyl records, tape, or traditional analog sources.

I mean the music signal itself.

Whether the source begins as a record, CD, or digital stream, once that signal enters a ModWright product, our focus is on preserving its integrity through a purely analog path.

That is where our passion lies.

The ModWright Philosophy

Over the years, people have often asked why ModWright doesn’t pursue DSP, software-driven signal manipulation, or other forms of digital processing.

The answer is simple.

Not because those technologies are inherently bad.

They simply are not where my interests, expertise, or passion reside.

At ModWright, we focus on what we know best.

Music.

Analog circuitry.

Craftsmanship.

Reliability.

And most importantly, the listening experience itself.

For nearly three decades, that philosophy has guided every product we have designed.

Music, Connection, and Escape

To me, a Pure Analog moment is about far more than technology.

It is about connection.

It is about stepping away from the demands of everyday life and finding a moment of peace, inspiration, and freedom.

Music has always had the power to do this.

It connects people across generations, cultures, and experiences. It can comfort us, challenge us, inspire us, and help us see the world differently.

At its best, music creates a space where we can simply be present.

That is a beautiful thing.

And perhaps now, more than ever, it is something we need.

Why ModWright Exists

When I think back to the earliest modifications and products we created at ModWright, I don’t remember distortion figures, bandwidth measurements, or technical specifications.

What I remember is the excitement of hearing music in a new way.

More natural.

More organic.

More believable.

More emotionally engaging.

It was never about technology for its own sake.

It was always about music.

The enjoyment of music.

The connection that music creates.

The moments of peace, inspiration, and discovery that music makes possible.

Looking back, I realize that this is what ModWright has always been about.

Creating Pure Analog moments.

Elegance. Simplicity. Truth.

More Truth
